About the author
Manoj Kumar Rawat is a senior banking and development finance professional with over three decades of experience across rural banking, agricultural finance, MSME finance, commodity and warehouse finance, microfinance, and climate-aligned finance.
He holds a B.Tech (Gold Medallist), M.E., MBA (Finance) and CAIIB. Over his career, he has held leadership roles with institutions including the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Fullerton India, and RBL Bank, and began his professional journey as a Scientist-Engineer with ISRO, India.
He currently works as an Independent Strategic Advisor and Consultant, supporting multilateral and development partners on agriculture and rural finance, MSME finance, commodity and warehouse ecosystems, sustainability, and climate finance.
An alumnus of G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, Manoj has also completed executive leadership and management programmes at Cornell University (USA) and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Across his work, he has contributed to committees and working groups spanning agribusiness, rural development, financial inclusion, responsible digital finance, and climate-linked initiatives. He brings a grounded understanding of field realities alongside policy and institutional experience, having worked closely with farmers, FPOs, MFIs, financial institutions, regulators, and international development partners.
In recent years, his work has increasingly focused on the intersection of finance, sustainability, and emerging digital and intelligence-enabled approaches—particularly how these are reshaping business, credit, risk, delivery models, and accountability in agriculture, rural development, and climate finance.
He also writes columns and articles on rural finance, agriculture, and the carbon economy, and publishes selected research as open access for others to use and build on.
